José Gisbert in the MICROBIOMAT research project
The company JOSE GISBERT, S.L., is carrying out a project that has the help of the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI) within the “Strategic projects in cooperation” action.
The main objective of the MICROBIOMAT project is the development of different solutions based on biobased raw materials, with low environmental impact, for sectors such as footwear, fashion and accessories, mainly.
The fashion, footwear and accessories sector is subject to increasing pressure from the end consumer in terms of sustainability and is committed to the adoption of good practices in manufacturing and after the end of the product life cycle. The use of recycled raw materials is a trend of growing interest in recent years, along with the use of biomaterials, although it is to be expected that in the medium-long term these solutions will be a commercial reality.
Currently, large companies in the luxury sector applicable to fashion, footwear and accessories are leading the process of productive change and the gradual commitment to the use of biomaterials of more or less exotic origin as an alternative to raw materials of petrochemical origin. The MICROBIOMAT initiative aims to develop technology and materials with low environmental impact and application in the footwear, fashion and accessories sectors by all the companies involved in the Initiative.
The main technological challenges of the MICROBIOMAT project are, on the one hand, the development of alternative biomaterials to conventional animal leather or imitation synthetic leather and, on the other hand, the formulation of natural dyes with which to carry out the dyeing, printing processes. textile and flexographic printing, for subsequent application in the fashion-accessories and footwear sector.
The project focuses on developing final products that cover needs of interest not only for the companies in the consortium that collaborate in this project but also of general interest for the footwear, fashion and accessories industries.
